News item: The Role of a Companion in Assisting Children Learning Online

In this time of the pandemic, students around the world are required to learn from home online. Students and parents have different experiences with online learning. Most of the students complained about the online implementation, for various reasons. However, not a few parents are overwhelmed in assisting their children to learn from home, especially elementary school students who are still not independent enough to complete their assignments according to the instructions given by the teacher.    Mrs. Istiworo Hardani, an entrepreneur, housewife, and the mother of Maureen [third-grade student at Pelita Insani Elementary School] said, "This online school takes too much attention. So, I have to sacrifice many other aspects to be able to assist [online learning] my daughter. This is very overwhelming for me, just too much." In this case, the parent or companion cannot fulfill their duties or work as on a regular day when children go to school to study. "Even if some...

Job Interview Simulation

Hi everyone! Any excitement recently? I had this excitement a few weeks ago, when we, the students did a Job Interview Simulation with our English teacher, Mr. Achdi. I was so nervous at first but I think I did a pretty good job eventually. My teacher played a role as an employer, and I played the applicant. This simulation aims to provide students with an overview of job applications in real life. Interesting right?   If I'm not mistaken, I was the fourth applicant. I was relieved by the fact that I wasn't the first applicant to be interviewed. When the interview started, the employer began to ask me questions. I think the conversation went like this: employer: Tell me about yourself! We ought to answer this question in a less personal way, such as: applicant: My name is Almadeena Maritza, I live in Bogor. After graduating from Queen's University Belfast with an architectural degree, I work as an intern in Wilson Architecture.  employer: Why should we employ you?...

Job Application Letter and CV

Image
Hi guys! Welcome back to my blog. How are you doing? I'm doing fine. Today, I like to share my impressions of making a job application letter and CV in English class several days ago. We also did a job interview simulation, but I'll clarify the detail later in the next blog.  First, we searched for a job vacancy on the internet. Once we found it, we sent it to our teacher, Mr. Achdi to get it approved. The job vacancy must not be expired, the work experience requirements must be equal to or less than 3 years.      Long story short, I get my job vacancy approved and started to write my job application letter. I applied as an Architectural Technologist in Ireland. I was so confused to make the job application letter rational. Here's the thing, I am Indonesian that graduated from a University somewhere in Ireland, previously worked at this company in Ireland, BUT my address pointed that I live in Indonesia (?) But somehow I managed to ignore that odd...

Meet Two

What’s up peeps? It’s me Alma. I hope you guys are doing okay at home. Today I’m gonna talk about the class I had with Mr. Achdi last week. The topic was still about “asking and offering help”.      First off, We did a post-test about the lesson we last learned about. It was pretty easy. Then we had a group discussion. I was in a group with Justin, Karin, and Abiyyu. Mr. Achdi told us to do a spontaneous conversation. The topic was “nail”. The conversation must had at least one expression of offering and asking for help. It was so fun and challenging.      Finally, We did a listening test. We listened to the audio given by Mr. Achdi. It was a little hard to listen to because the people in the audio were using british accent. But I did great answering the quiz eventually. Lucky me!      The class was over before you know it. It was so fun and I learned so much. That’s all for this blog. I hope you guys keep doing great stud...

INTRODUCTION

Hi guys, my name is Almadeena Maritza. You can call me Alma. I am a student at Dwiwarna Boarding School. I was born on 18 February 2004 in Jakarta. I live in Telaga Kahuripan, Bogor. I have two siblings.   My favorite food is martabak. I had a class with Mr. Achdi, my English teacher.   We were learning about how to offer and ask for help. It was an interesting topic to learn. There are so many ways to offer help. The examples of expression to offer help are “How can I help you?”, “Do you need any help?” , “Let me help you”, and so many more. To ask for help we can use the expressions such as “Can you help me?”, ‘Could you give me a hand?”, “Will you help me, please?” , and others. The important thing is we need to be polite to offer and ask for help. In that class we also had a group discussion. We were divided into several groups. Each group contained two student. I was in a group with Justin. We were asked to make a dialogue using the expressions we learned. We both sta...
